
26 hours of traveling, including layovers, actual flight time, delays, etc. … and I’m finally in Bangkok! Thank goodness our Rotarian counselors were there to greet a small group of us. There’s nothing like being picked up at the airport in a country where you don’t speak the language at midnight. Their smiles and hospitable mannerisms were incredibly appreciated beyond words!!!!!!!!!!! Thankfully our ride back to the dorm was only half hour and although I was tired and wanted to go to bed immediately, my adrenalin kicked in and I unpacked my bags. It was anticlimactic ending up in a room alone and institutional looking. This is where I remind myself of the advice that I would always give my students, and that is to force yourself out of your comfort zone or your safe “bubble.” Despite the anticlimactic and depressing space of where my travels ended, I had to believe that I had a different experience – that of wonderment, culture … - awaiting me the following day …
